This is a set of 12 Lenox hand-painted fish plates, artist signed by W. H. Morley, circa 1920s.  They are 9" in diameter, and were made for Bailey, Banks & Biddle of Philadelphia.  The gold trim is the J9 pattern, 1/2" wide.  Each plate features a different sport fish, which is indicated on the back of the plate.  William Morley was arguably Lenox's most famed artist, and worked with the company from its inception in 1905 until his death in the late 1930s. These plates are more colorful than the muted tones usually seen in Lenox's fish plates.

Fish portrayed in this set include: salmon, blue fish, brook trout, Spanish mackerel, weak fish, yellow perch, roach, sea bass, pike, sun fish, and porgy (there are two plates depicting the porgy).

A few plates have some minor trim wear at the edges.  Four plates show occasional stacking marks (gray lines) on the shoulders. While these marks are sometimes quite extensive on the backs of the plates, they are far less evident on the fronts, and again, only appear minimally on four frontal surfaces.
